The Montreal-area company said it’s focusing now on liquid-fuelled rocket engines instead of starting with a hybrid one for its planned first launch vehicle, called Aurora. Talking point: Efforts to develop rockets for all-Canadian launches have largely focused on light-lift models, but as SpaceX, which dominates the private space-launch market, shifts toward heavier and heavier vehicles and retires its workhorse medium-lift Falcon 9 model, it’s leaving a gap that could be lucrative to fill. Despite the technological shift, Reaction Dynamics still plans to make its first launch into orbit (planned for Maritime Launch Services’ Nova Scotia site) in 2028, it said.
