Talking point: For more than a year and a half, Britishvolt has been struggling to forge a deal for a factory in Bécancour. At a Montreal conference in July, CEO Orral Nadjari praised Canada’s “unique geographical advantage.” Nadjari stepped down last week, and the company has announced an 18-month delay to its flagship U.K. battery plant, citing rising energy costs. The company is seeking provincial and federal funding for its Quebec plant; La Presse reported that the Quebec government wants more information about the company’s other financing and its North American customers. Former Quebec premier Philippe Couillard, who heads Britishvolt’s Canadian branch, told La Presse that the company still believes it has the right solution for Quebec’s battery supply chain. Britishvolt declined The Logic’s request for comment on the reported delays.
