Canadian Union of Postal Workers will be in a legal position to strike as early as Friday if negotiated settlements aren’t resolved. Canada Post’s bargaining efforts in the coming days will determine whether workers will strike immediately, the union’s leadership said. (The Logic)
Talking point: The two sides have been negotiating for nearly a year. The union rejected Canada Post’s offer in late October of a 11.97 per cent salary increase over four years, and says the two parties “remain far apart” on wages, as well on issues like paid meals and number of sick days. A strike would affect millions of Canadians and businesses and adversely impact the corporation’s already-precarious financial situation, Canada Post said in a statement.
