After previously demoting longtime Ottawa-area MP Pierre Poilievre to be the Conservative critic for jobs and industry, Tory Leader Erin O’Toole returned him to the top of the depth chart by assigning him Tuesday to harry Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland. (The Logic)
Talking point: Other files related to the modern economy are also getting experienced Conservative critics, including ex-minister Ed Fast at Industry, Michelle Rempel Garner at Natural Resources, Dan Albas at Environment and former leader Andrew Scheer at Infrastructure. Relative newcomer John Nater, elected in 2015, shadows Canadian Heritage after a stint covering Rural Economic Development. MPs who have been publicly problematic for O’Toole on COVID-19 vaccinations were left out of the shadow cabinet, including high-profile newcomer Leslyn Lewis and former health critic Marilyn Gladu. Gladu apologized Tuesday for spreading dangerous misinformation about the virus and vaccines.
