The cash-and-stock deal sees shareholders of the Toronto-based digital sports media group receive a 46 per cent premium on its share price as of Nov. 3. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of next year, and is subject to closing conditions as well as regulatory and court approvals. (The Logic)
Talking point: Playmaker owns sports and entertainment news site Yardbarker, as well as sports fan website The Nation Network and South American digital sports brand Futbol Sites. The companies said in a release that the acquisition will allow Copenhagen-based Better Collective, a sports-betting media company, to grow its audiences across the Americas among generalist sports fans. In 2021, Better Collective acquired Canada Sports Betting for US$23.5 million. The Playmaker deal is Better Collective’s second-largest acquisition, following its US$240-million purchase of sports-betting media company Action Network that same year. (Relay Ventures, one of Playmaker’s biggest investors, is an investor in The Logic.)
