On the pipeline firm’s third-quarter earnings call Friday, the company said it was “working with customers” to secure agreements to expand its gas-fired Greenlight Electricity Centre northeast of Edmonton, Alta., being built to power Meta’s $13-billion Sturgeon County data centre. (The Logic)
Talking point: Pembina Pipeline has been open about its plans to expand Greenlight after it sanctioned the first 932-megawatt phase of the project in July. It has not said if Meta will also be the customer for the electricity from Greenlight Two. On Friday, the company noted the existing site is approved for 1.8 gigawatts of generating capacity—roughly twice the capacity of the first phase. Pembina was also asked about recent regulatory filings proposing another 466 megawatts at Greenlight—and a potentially much larger development on adjacent land—but offered no specifics on the scale or timing of those potential expansions. “We’ve always said we see this as a business, not as a project,” CEO Scott Burrows said Friday.
