The Calgary-based gas station and fuel company said the deal with California-based FreeWire’s will speed up the rollout of EV chargers, mostly at its On the Run convenience stores and Triple O’s restaurants. The companies didn’t disclose the terms of the deal. (The Logic)
Talking point: As Canada struggles to build out its EV infrastructure, the ultrafast chargers will be of particular interest to prospective EV buyers who don’t have access to overnight charging at home. A survey commissioned by Natural Resources Canada last year found that only 47 per cent of respondents could charge their vehicles at home and only 18 per cent could charge at work. More ultrarapid chargers, like those offered by FreeWire, would allow those drivers to charge a dead EV battery in around half an hour or less at a public station. Parkland said that it will not need electrical upgrades to install the FreeWire’s chargers, allowing for the faster rollout.
