Talking point: The upgrade to attract more global luxury brands comes as Yorkdale has yet to find a new tenant for a 190,000-square-foot space left empty by Nordstrom. The U.S. department store chain, which came to Canada in 2014, filed for creditor protection in Canada in March, and has since closed its 13 locations in the country. “Yorkdale is exploring a variety of options around the available space,” said spokesperson Adrienne Simic in an email. Malls have been getting creative to find ways to draw foot traffic and new tenants following a slew of department-store closures. One solution, as my colleague Anita reported, comes from the auto industry with EV showcases entering malls.
