Talking point: Karpathy left the ChatGPT maker in February, his second departure from the firm after leaving in 2017 for a position as Tesla’s senior director of AI and returning six years later. Like fellow OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever, Karpathy studied with AI pioneer Geoffrey Hinton at the University of Toronto. Karpathy said Eureka Labs’ courses aim to replicate the experience of receiving hands-on guidance from a subject-matter expert, but for far more people than that expert could possibly tutor one-on-one. An AI teaching assistant would help guide students through human-designed course material, he said. Eureka Labs’ first course will be an undergraduate-level class on AI training, which “will be the world’s obviously best AI course,” Karpathy said.
