General Motors revealed the forecast of its internal electric-van and delivery technology startup, BrightDrop, at its investor day Thursday. The automaker also said it aims to make its North American EV portfolio “solidly profitable” by 2025. (The Logic)
Talking point: Chief financial officer Paul Jacobson told investors that it is “new businesses like BrightDrop that will help us achieve our revenue and margin targets by the end of the decade.” GM is aiming to reach total revenue of US$225 billion and EV revenue of US$50 billion in 2025. The company said its Ontario plant will launch full production of a new BrightDrop model next year, and will scale up to make 50,000 units annually by 2025—potentially a good sign for Canadian union workers as they look to secure their next manufacturing commitments in 2023 negotiations. GM also deepened its EV supply chain in Canada with a new nickel deal announced Thursday.
