The largest transit bus manufacturer in North America issued a battery recall that will affect 680 delivered buses, a small number of motor coaches, and 37 vehicles it planned to deliver this year. The maker of New Flyer and Alexander Dennis buses said the money set aside for warranties will be material to its third-quarter financial results. (The Logic)
Talking point: Shares of Manitoba-based NFI fell about six per cent by Friday afternoon. The recall, as well as an issue with a seat supplier, will mean that some of its deliveries will move to the fourth quarter, delaying progress to fill its near-record backlog of orders totalling US$13.5 billion as of June 30. The company said it had to recall the zero-emission bus models because there was a chance the supplier’s battery modules could cause the cell to short circuit.
