The joint venture between Stellantis and LG Energy Solution said the workers, largely from South Korea, will be among about 1,600 technicians employed by external suppliers who will be brought in to assemble, install and test equipment. (The Logic) 

Talking point: The numbers come after a heated debate about whether the government-subsidized battery plant is bringing in foreign workers for jobs that could be filled by Canadians. Windsor police had previously reported they expected 1,600 South Korean workers to come to the city, while Innovation Minister François-Philippe Champagne said there would be a “fairly small number” of foreign workers for the plant. NextStar is now clarifying that out of 1,600 supplier staff, there will be 900 foreign staffers who stay for up to a year and a half.  In addition, it plans to hire 2,500 Canadians for full-time permanent jobs, while the construction company will employ another 1,600 Canadians in temporary roles.
