Canadian marketing firm Viral Nation brought the project to Unrealistic Ideas, the unscripted series company co-founded by Wahlberg. The film will include unreleased archival footage of the Waterloo, Ont., software firm and exclusive access to “dozens of key executives.” (The Logic)
Talking point: The feature-length film aims to tell the “real” story of the smartphone maker’s ascent and subsequent fall, the producers said in a press release. It comes on the heels of last year’s dramatized film BlackBerry, which swept the Canadian Screen Awards. Wahlberg’s firm has produced other business documentaries, including the “McMillion$” series on HBO, which examined the 1990s scam on the McDonald’s Monopoly game, and “MoviePass, MovieCrash.” The new BlackBerry documentary doesn’t yet have a release date but is in production.
