Talking point: In a tweet, Mailchimp described it as a “new” integration, but the two platforms were previously linked. Mailchimp pulled its app from Shopify’s store in March 2019, citing concerns with the data requirements in the latter’s updated terms of service. The Atlanta-based firm had acquired a Vancouver-based e-commerce platform earlier that month. The severed ties left Shopify merchants to use third-party apps to integrate their Mailchimp accounts, or switch to competitor email tools. Both companies have since moved further onto each others’ turf. Shopify launched an email-marketing tool in November 2019, while Mailchimp rolled out new online-store features in April. Their reunion comes six weeks after Intuit announced it was acquiring Mailchimp. Intuit’s flagship QuickBooks has been integrated with Shopify without incident since March 2015.
