Talking point: The Glencore-backed company said in a release it has “taken steps to significantly reduce its workforce” and spending, and that it expects to do more “right-sizing.” Louie Diaz, vice-president of marketing and communications, told The Logic that 30 workers were impacted in November after the decision to pause the Ontario plant. On a conference call with analysts, CEO Ajay Kochhar said Li-Cycle still sees positive long-term trends in the electric-vehicle industry. The company is now focusing only on two battery materials in its Rochester, N.Y., factory—lithium carbonate and mixed hydroxide precipitate—to better reflect “current expectations regarding the timing and evolution of the battery recycling and EV markets.” Li-Cycle closed up more than 22 per cent.
