The Toronto-area battery recycler has started operations in Tuscaloosa, which is home to a Mercedes-Benz plant. Li-Cycle said the new plant will help it serve a growing customer base in North America. (The Logic)
Talking point: The company’s fourth North American plant, and third in the U.S., will recycle a wider variety of EV batteries in an effort to differentiate it from the competition. General Motors invested in Quebec battery recycler Lithion last month, and Stellantis said this week that it will grow its in-house recycling operations. Li-Cycle said the Alabama plant, which is modelled after its similar plant in Arizona, reflects improved processes for recycling a full battery without dismantling it. The 100,000-square-foot plant and 120,000-square-foot warehouse will employ about 45 people with room to expand.
