Talking point: Workers at law firms and corporate legal departments use Harvey’s tools to analyze and summarize documents, pulling out key information to generate filings and contracts. Done manually, it’s “extremely laborious work,” said Gurumurthy. Harvey promises to speed up the process using AI models trained on case and regulatory information from specific jurisdictions, and hooked into clients’ own data. “For Canada, we have crawled all the legal documents,” Gurumurthy said. He cited Canada’s strong engineering talent pool and Toronto’s proximity to U.S. East Coast customers as draws. The startup recently signed major Canadian law firms Davies and Gowling as clients. Founded in 2022, Harvey has raised US$816 million to date, per PitchBook data; it’s among a new cohort of AI-powered startups both fundraising and growing explosively.
