Talking point: Jury selection is expected to take two days, with the trial beginning Sept. 8. Between 30 and 40 potential jurors were already cut after filling out questionnaires that revealed many had read much about the high-profile case. The startup’s fall from grace has been chronicled in a book, a podcast and an upcoming miniseries. Court documents unsealed over the weekend show the defence plans to allege that Balwani “verbally disparaged her and withdrew ‘affection if she displeased him,’” as well as controlled her food, clothing, finances and social interactions. His lawyers have disputed the claims.
