The Paris-based private equity firm, which has a second headquarters in Montreal, is aiming to raise up to €1.1 billion (almost $1.8 billion) for its fifth fund to back intellectual property-heavy scaleup companies. (The Logic)
Talking point: Investors in the fund so far include sovereign wealth funds, European banks and pension funds, and family offices. Jolt managing partner Jean Schmitt told La Presse the firm hopes to have Canadian backers in the fund as well. The firm opened its Montreal office in June 2024, its first headquarters outside Europe. Schmitt told The Logic at the time that while Canada has “vibrant, state-sponsored technology, with the creation of a lot of intellectual property… there is very little growth capital.” A few months later, Jolt moved a subsidiary, Dolphin Semiconductor, from France to Montreal and invested $40 million to help the company grow.
