The group, which provides grants to universities and environmental organizations, said it would invest the remainder of its $100-million endowment and end all operations by the end of 2027. Talking point: Ivey has been in operation since 1947 and is Canada’s sixth-oldest private family foundation. Its board decided to wind down based on the “recognition that foundations need not continue in perpetuity for perpetuity’s sake.” That was due in part to the foundation’s belief that its endowment would be best put toward addressing climate change in the near term rather than down the road. “Now is the time to apply our assets, experience, talented staff, and well-positioned network of grantees and partners to the task of helping position Canada for success,” board chair Rosamond Ivey said in a statement.
