Shareholder Solomon Chau alleged the electric-vehicle maker, its CEO Elon Musk and its board failed to address complaints about workplace discrimination and harassment. The complaint also alleges the company’s culture is “grounded in racist and sexist abuse and discrimination against its own employees.” (Reuters)
Talking point: Tesla did not respond to Reuters’s request for comment. The lawsuit claims the company’s workplace culture resulted in high-quality employees leaving and added costs due to legal actions and fines. Meanwhile, several employees said Musk’s SpaceX fired staff responsible for writing an open letter criticizing the founder’s online behaviour following a recently publicized accusation of sexual assault against him. Musk has denied the allegation. The billionaire CEO, who is in the midst of a US$44-billion deal to buy Twitter, also told the social media platform’s staff Thursday to expect layoffs and more work from the office, unless they’re “exceptional,” according to a video of the town hall obtained by Insider.
