Under the app’s new policy, teenage users of the Meta-owned platform will have restrictions including time limits, heightened filters for sensitive content, and muted notifications between the hours of 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. Parents will also have the ability to monitor their children’s activity, as well as set daily time limits to their Instagram usage. Talking point: The changes, which came into effect today, come three years after a Wall Street Journal investigation found that Facebook executives knew Instagram was responsible for increased rates of anxiety, depression and body-image issues among teens. Meanwhile, Meta also announced plans to bar Russian media outlets, including RT, following a U.S. Department of Justice indictment alleging the state-owned television network was attempting to influence public opinion—by way of Canadian-owned Tenet Media.
