Talking point: Industry Minister Mélanie Joly has said Canada would like Hanwha and its German rival TKMS to include Canadian auto plants in their bids; so far, this is the closest either has publicly come to such a commitment. Having Canadian factories making other Hanwha armaments would give the Canadian government powerful incentives to pick those in future procurements, of course, but Hanwha said they could also be made for export. Hanwha and TKMS had until Wednesday to sweeten bids they’d previously submitted.
