Talking point: A low interest rate environment is putting pressure on insurance companies, and investing in technology is a path to being more cost-efficient, according to PwC Canada partner Keegan Iles. Being part of the Power Corp. portfolio, however, could give Great-West Life an advantage in the evolving sector. Power Corp. has had its tech portfolio companies collaborate in the past to push solutions to market. Toronto-based League, for example, brought virtual healthcare provider Dialogue into its platform in July 2017. Both are Power Corp. investee companies. Great West-Life went on to expand Dialogue across Canada through its platform in December 2018.
