The tire maker is modernizing and expanding its plant in Napanee, Ont., so it can make more electric-vehicle tires, and to improve the facility’s energy efficiency. The upgrade will lead to 200 new manufacturing jobs by 2027, Goodyear said. Talking point: In a press conference at the tire plant, federal and provincial politicians doubled down on their support for the EV industry, despite the recent slowdown in automakers’ manufacturing plans. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau batted away a question on whether the country invested too early in the industry’s transition, saying EVs are “where the puck is going.”  Trudeau wouldn’t say whether his government plans to hike tariffs on rival EV products from China, after a recent federal consultation on the issue. But the issue’s a politically live one: on Friday, federal Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre said he supports a 100 per cent tariff on “made-in-China” EVs entering Canada.
