Unifor, which represents more than 4,600 workers at General Motors plants in Ontario, said Sunday its members voted to ratify three-year contracts with the Detroit Three automaker that included the commitments. (The Logic)
Talking point: Jack Uppal of GM Canada said the company will increase its total planned investments in its Oshawa and St. Catharines operations to nearly $1.4 billion over three years, including $144 million to bring production of the next-generation heavy-duty truck to Oshawa. Another $215 million will make the St. Catharines propulsion plant the sole source of a next-generation transmission. Unifor, which will begin negotiations with Chrysler parent company Stellantis on Tuesday, said GM also agreed to keep looking for ways to use the idled CAMI Assembly plant in Ingersoll, Ont., including if GM wins a contract from the Canadian Armed Forces.
