Talking point: The strategy focuses on four pillars: how to empower people to define, generate and redistribute wealth; improving land sovereignty and management, and environmental stewardship; enhancing physical and institutional infrastructure; and stepping up access to financial capital. The strategy builds upon the final report of the Truth and Reconciliation Committee. It offers a tangible way for governments and businesses to advance reconciliation, said spokesperson Dawn Madahbee Leach in a statement. Some corporations have started to move toward addressing reconciliation. In August, major tech firms agreed to work with B.C.-based First Nations Technology Council to address systemic hiring barriers, and Telus published an Indigenous reconciliation action plan in November, claiming to be the first Canadian tech company with one.
