Claiming to be the first tech company in Canada to publish one, the telecom company said short-term commitments in its reconciliation plan include connecting 20 more Indigenous communities to broadband by 2023; funding a $1-million grant program for health, education and cultural revitalization programs; helping create electronic learning material on Indigenous issues; and achieving Bronze status in a certification program on Indigenous relations run by the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business. (The Logic)

Talking point: Expanding its service network is the first commitment in Telus’s plan, on the grounds that economic, educational and social development are all promoted by first-rate internet access. To guide it, Telus said it will form an Indigenous advisory committee “to provide advice and guidance on the implementation of Telus’s reconciliation actions,” comprising leaders, subject-matter experts and elders from the areas it serves.
