The Nisga’a Nation, Rockies LNG and Western LNG have filed a proposal for a 12-million-tonne-a-year liquefied natural gas (LNG) project on the northern tip of Pearse Island in B.C. The proposal was filed with the B.C. and federal governments. (The Logic)
Talking point: The filing is part of the first phase of the proposed project, engaging First Nations and local communities. The economic impact related to the facility is expected to be about $55 billion. The project could be operational near the end of 2027 or in 2028, and reach net-zero emissions within three years of starting operations. The facility is expected to cost about $10 billion. It’s one of two new Indigenous-led projects—the other being Cedar LNG—spurring hope that West Coast natural-gas exports to Asia could happen after a string of cancelled projects in the province.
