Authorities in the Caribbean nation of Dominica, where the Canadian Softimage founder and his wife Marchand lived, say a hitman targeted the couple over a long-standing property dispute with a neighbour, according to La Presse. Four people have been arrested, including American businessman Jonathan Lehrer, who owns a property next to Langlois’s Coulibri Ridge resort. (La Presse, Le Journal de Montréal)
Talking point: Their bodies were found Friday in an incinerated vehicle on the island. Lehrer had long complained that the public road to Langlois’s resort cut through his property, home to a chocolate production facility and a property development, according to La Presse. In 1986, Langlois founded Softimage, the developer of 3D-animation software used in movies including Jurassic Park and Titanic. He sold the Montreal-based firm to Microsoft for about $200 million in 1994, and the subsidiary was later sold to Massachusetts-based Avid Technology in 1998.
