Brien, who was most recently CEO of ad tech firm Amobee, will replace Adrian Montgomery as chief executive of the Toronto-based esports and gaming media company. Montgomery, who has been CEO since 2019, will become chair of the company’s board. Brien will run the firm from Los Angeles. (The Logic)
Talking point: Enthusiast had been searching for a new CEO for over seven months, after the firm’s largest outside shareholder Greywood Investments launched an activist campaign to remove Montgomery and a majority of the firm’s board members, citing culture and management concerns. The company is now embroiled in a legal dispute with its former chief operating officer Thamba Tharmalingam, whom Enthusiast claims conspired with Greywood to usurp Montgomery. Thamalingam denies the allegations and claims he was fired without cause. The company’s share price closed up seven per cent Wednesday afternoon.
