The Theranos founder, who faces 20 years in prison for each of the four charges of which a jury found her guilty Monday, could challenge evidence the judge allowed despite the defense’s objections, possible juror misconduct, should any have occurred, or other factors. (The Wall Street Journal)
Talking point: While Silicon Valley has tried to distance itself from Holmes, her trial showed how central the area’s culture of hype was to Theranos attracting investors. Despite that, some say Silicon Valley has not learned much, if anything, from the scandal. Holmes, who left the court with her partner, Billy Evans, and her parents, did not comment on the verdict. The jury, which acquitted Holmes on four counts, could not reach a decision on three more. The judge will hold a conference in about a week to discuss whether the government plans a retrial for those counts. The trial for Sunny Balwani, Holmes’s former partner and Theranos’s former president, begins next month.
