Talking point: Unemployment fell to 7.8 per cent. All of June’s employment gains came from part-time work, and were mostly for youth between 15 and 24 years old. Accommodation and food services, as well as retail trade, drove June’s growth, thanks to a relaxing of pandemic-related restrictions. Both industries were among those hard hit by the pandemic as public health measures closed eateries and shops, and prevented travel. Meanwhile, the number of people working from home fell to 4.7 million, as offices begin to reopen.
