Unofficial results show Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservatives won the province’s snap election Thursday night after a campaign that focused almost entirely on U.S. trade threats. His win makes him the first leader since the 1950s to win three consecutive majorities in the province. (The Logic)

Talking Point: Ford said he called the election at the end of January because he needed a new mandate to respond to U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff threats and potentially spend tens of billions of dollars to protect jobs and the economy. His pitch to voters included a pledge to dismantle interprovincial trade barriers by removing all of Ontario’s exemptions under the Canada Free Trade Agreement. Canada’s internal trade minister met with provincial representatives in Toronto on Friday to talk about the agreement on Ford’s first day back in office. Nova Scotia has already tabled a bill to essentially treat other provinces’ goods and services as local,  as long as those jurisdictions reciprocate. Ford responded to the news with a social media post, saying “count me in.”
