Talking point: New discount carriers in Canada tend to come in flocks. Enerjet, which plans to launch its new service towards the end of next year, will join WestJet’s new Swoop airline, the expanding Edmonton-based Flair Airlines and the upcoming Canada Jetlines. But previous entrants trying to offer low-cost options in Canada’s expensive domestic air travel market—including years like 2000 and 2013, when there were multiple new or expanding carriers—have failed to take off. Enerjet itself has twice previously tried to become a mainstream passenger carrier.
