Talking point: One of Canada’s largest real estate developers, best known for its high-rise condominium towers in Vancouver and Toronto, Concord has been branching out into renewable energy investments and told Bloomberg that it plans to build smaller-scale data centres. The Vancouver-based firm is aiming to build so-called “powered shells”—purpose-built facilities to house AI data centres. The company said it is working on “a few” such facilities across Canada that would be urban, smaller-scale and under 50 megawatts. Concord said it’s also in the early stages of development for more renewable energy projects worth several hundred megawatts—including the Amisk Hydroelectric Project in northwestern Alberta.
