Ella Zhang, head of YZi Labs, the family office of Canadian billionaire Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao, will join the board of CEA, an investment vehicle for BNB, a crypto asset that facilitates transactions on blockchains built by Binance. YZi Labs partner Alex Odagiu will serve as interim president while the board searches for a new CEO, and will also join the board along with venture capitalist Matthew Roszak. (The Logic)
Talking point: The agreement ends a months-long proxy fight between CEA and YZi. YZi had pushed to replace CEA’s board with its own nominees in an effort to revive the company’s stock. The family office participated in a US$500-million investment in CEA Industries—whose business was previously focused on selling equipment to marijuana growers and vapes to Canadians—in July 2025. In a recent interview with CoinDesk, Zhao said he wants to boost Binance’s profile in the U.S., but doesn’t intend to get involved in its operations now that he’s been pardoned after pleading guilty to violating anti-money-laundering laws in 2023.
