As part of the private agreement, Quebec’s public pension fund manager sold nearly 8.7 million common Alimentation Couche-Tard shares to the Canadian convenience store chain at $80.50 a share, a three per cent discount. Couche-Tard, which paid for the stake with cash on hand, will cancel the shares as a result. (The Logic)
Talking point: The Caisse retains a 3.5 per cent interest in the chain after the sale. It marks the second such transaction in as many years, after the Caisse sold a $700-million stake in company shares to Couche-Tard in July 2023. “The proceeds of this monetization will be reinvested in other companies in Québec,” said Caisse executive vice-president Kim Thomassin.
