Talking point: Investors and companies have shown increasing interest in password-management companies and cybersecurity providers, as the global pandemic led to a proliferation in ransomware and other attacks. In January, Toronto-based 1Password raised US$620-million Series C funding led by Iconiq Capital, marking the largest fundraising round in Canada ever (the previous record was Wealthsimple’s US$600-million round last year). LastPass, another platform with 25 million users, was breached last month, perhaps in a sign that such managers are also becoming a target of hackers.
