Talking point: Charities won’t actually receive the donations in crypto. CanadaHelps says it sells the crypto for dollars as soon as it receives the payment, then transfers the funds to the designated organization. That could help ease the tax-reporting burden on charities, which, according to Canada Revenue Agency rules, would be required to track the cost of acquisition for crypto received as donations. Version One Ventures founder Boris Wertz is making the platform’s first crypto donation—to Canada Learning Code, a charity focused on computer science education, particularly for underserved communities. Wertz is also a CLC board member.
