Carney said Canada and Mexico are still committed to the trilateral trade deal, and ruled out the prospect that either country would throw the other under the bus to pursue a one-on-one deal with the U.S. Canada had already completed a round of consultations on the trade pact last year, but that was before U.S. President Donald Trump imposed massive tariffs on Canadian industries and goods. Meanwhile, Canada withdrew challenges against some U.S. import taxes on softwood lumber in what the government has characterized as a “strategic choice” amid the trade talks.
