Talking point: The Caisse owns a 3.5 per cent stake in Alimentation Couche-Tard, making it one of the chain’s largest shareholders. Caisse CEO Charles Emond has previously indicated the pension fund is willing to back the bid by the Quebec-based retail giant. Seven & i rejected the chain’s initial US$39-billion acquisition offer in September, saying it was “grossly undervalued” while raising concerns over potential regulatory hurdles. Since then, Seven & i has reportedly signalled its desire to sell off stakes in its banking and retail units.
