Talking point: The pandemic continued to weigh on revenue in the company’s civil-aviation training segment, with quarterly revenue down 26 per cent year over year. CAE said that in 2021 it “expects the COVID-19 pandemic to continue to have a significant negative impact on its performance relative to pre pandemic levels.” It noted the global vaccination campaign was encouraging, but renewed quarantine measures and border restrictions could mean a “more protracted recovery period for commercial air travel.” The company recently agreed to buy a flight-simulator manufacturer, crew-management software company and Amsterdam’s Flight Simulation Company, which came with a $150-million equity investment into CAE by the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec.
