Investors in the Toronto and Montreal-based fintech app, which aims to help facilitate the transition of recent arrivals to Canada, include Jawl Residential Group, real estate developer Adrian Rocca, former PayBright CEO Wayne Pommen and MS Transverse Insurance Group. (The Logic)
Talking point: The app seeks to simplify the (often byzantine) process of immigrating to the country, with an initial focus on supporting an immigrant’s first 100 days in Canada. It plans to add Beacon Money, which the company said will offer “everyday financial solutions” to immigrants. Beacon co-founder and chief product and technology officer Aditya Mhatre is a former vice-president of Paytm, one of India’s largest digital payment app. Stuart Szabo, the other co-founder and CEO of Beacon, is a former executive at pension fund manager PSP Investments.
