Talking point: The group, which includes the BC Tech Association and Accelerate Okanagan, asked for $31 million from Western Economic Diversification for supporting high-potential companies in B.C. BC Tech Association CEO Jill Tipping said she hopes the 2021 federal budget includes capital for a B.C. scale-up program. Ontario’s program launched in April 2019 with $52.4 million for four years. Tipping said the group’s proposal tweaks the Ontario program for a B.C. context, which includes smaller tech companies that need support at an earlier stage. It wants to help about 20 businesses grow to $50 million or more in revenue by the time the program ends. – Aleksandra
