U.S. Ambassador to Canada Pete Hoekstra praised President Donald Trump on Friday for moving quickly on priorities that he said will benefit other G7 countries too. (The Logic)

Talking point: “When we are all open for business, it’s a better and it’s a safer world,” Hoekstra said in a speech at the B7, a gathering of business leaders from G7 countries in Ottawa. He said Trump is taking action in a number of areas the B7 highlighted as priorities, including securing the supply chain for critical minerals. He encouraged others to work with the U.S. on defence, security and economic issues. He said he liked how Prime Minister Mark Carney had referred to the people of Canada when he was at the White House. (“Having met with the owners of Canada over the course of the campaign’s last several months, it’s not for sale,” Carney told Trump.) Hoekstra said he liked referring to the people as “owners” of the country. “I’m just going to steal it from Carney,” he said.
