Talking point: This is the company’s second investment in Canadian renewable energy. In April, the Seattle-based online-shopping behemoth announced an 80 MW project near Lathom, Alta. Amazon plans to use only renewable energy to power company activities by 2025, and aims to be net-zero carbon by 2040. The tech giant claims to be the world’s largest corporate buyer of renewable energy, and leads the pack in the race among Big Tech to decarbonize their operations. Yet critics have pointed out that green technology alone won’t reduce carbon emissions; consumer behaviour must change, as well.
