The Vancouver-based biotech company said it has developed an antibody to provide non-hormonal treatments for hot flashes, a menopause symptom experienced by up to 80 per cent of women. The trial followed 92 women and found a statistically significant reduction in frequency and severity of hot flashes after four weeks. (The Logic)
Talking point: AbCellera, which made a global name for itself by developing an early treatment for COVID-19, has been searching for its first “winning drug” that could transform it into a global biotech company, CEO Carl Hansen said on a conference call about the trial’s results. Hansen is now betting that the ABCL635 antibody could be that product. AbCellera is developing the treatment for patients who need non-hormonal treatments for hot flashes, such as cancer patients undergoing hormone deprivation, or patients experiencing chronic insomnia. Victoria-based OBGYN Kelsey Mills, who joined AbCellera’s conference call, said addressing insomnia could have “a massive impact” on both women’s health and economic output.
