U.S. lawsuits that creditors brought against the Canadian company over a reorganization last September concern moves made in Canada under Canadian law and have no place in a federal courtroom in the Southern District of New York, Telesat’s lawyers said in motions to dismiss those cases. The creditors have also filed suit in Ontario. (The Logic)
Talking point: Bloomberg reported first on the filings. The creditors allege that Telesat won’t be able to repay debt that’s coming due near the end of 2026 and illegally moved control of its nascent but potentially valuable low Earth orbit satellite constellation to a new corporate entity so as to leave the lenders with little but a decaying traditional satellite business. Telesat has said the cases are meritless.
