Erin Zipes is joining the Toronto-based cybersecurity company to help scale its legal team. She previously spent more than seven years at Shopify in various roles, most recently as vice president, assistant general counsel and corporate secretary. (The Logic)

Talking point: Zipes’s hire is the latest of several key executive appointments at 1Password over the last year, including its chief marketing officer, chief technology officer and chief people officer. The company has aggressively expanded since raising US$620 million in January, which it said was Canada’s largest-ever private fundraising. Zipes is a founding partner of 1Password investor Backbone Angels, a collective that backs women and non-binary founders. At Shopify, Zipes helped steer the company through its IPO; asked whether that would be part of her role at 1Password, she said, “At a certain point in any company’s growth, I think there comes a time where that might make sense,” she told The Logic in an interview.
